Ilse Hausner-Witschel 20.3.1920 - 1.1.2015

"Space, form, color and composition are the basic elements of my paintings. With these elements I stay deliberately inside the tradition. My subjects are portraits, landscapes, still lives and figured compositions. My way of creating a painting is the translation of the nature after recognition of the forms and colors as coherence in the space"

"My paintings are such as my children"

These quotations characterize the oeuvre of the great artist Ilse Hausner. Her profession was her mission. She dedicated her life to create outstanding expressionist fine art.

One emphasis of her fine art was landscape paintings. The majority of these landscape oil canvas have been created in Italy and here especially in Tuscany and the region around San Gimignano. Since 1957 she was travelling each year into this region till up to high age, mainly during autumn, because she liked most the colors and the light of the Tuscany landscape in autumn.

"Like Cezanne I did observe thoroughly the nature and therefore I always preferred to work in the nature. During my excursions through the nature I discovered my themes, sketched them, and when they had appeared in my mind's eye I did elaborate the landscape on my canvas."

Beside Paul Cezanne's paintings her paradigms were the frescoes of Piero della Francesca’s, the oeuvre of Carl Hofer, Paula Modersohn Becker and August Macke.

She demanded a great deal of the Quality of her Oeuvre. Clarity of the forms, clarity of the expression, reduction on few succinct colors and avoidance of simple effects characterize her oeuvre. Her target was to reach with few and modest means a significant expression.
